More creativity can shine in this Sims title

The Sims 5, codenamed “Project Rene,” is a life simulation video game that allows you to control virtual characters, and build and customize home objects for their use. Developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, this sandbox game is the fifth installment in The Sims’ mainline series and offers various new features.

Similar to The Sims 4, The Sims 5 retains all of the base gameplay that the franchise has come to be known for. However, it offers more in-depth customization on building mechanics and enables players to collaborate easier on home designs.

What can I expect in Sims 5?

The Sims is a series of simulation video games wherein players can create virtual people called "Sims," place them in houses, satisfy their needs, and whatnot. They can either use preset characters and houses or extensively customize them. With expansion packs, players can also access additional objects and specialized gameplay mechanics for more enrichment. It became highly popular and is considered one of the best-selling video game series around.

Each main game remained fairly similar; they did introduce something a little new. The Sims 4, in particular, put more emphasis on moods and how they would affect a Sim’s actions and wishes. In The Sims 5, however, the object customization in the Build Mode gets a major update. In previous titles, the Build Mode offers several but limited patterns, color palettes, and object placement for the player’s customization.

Now in this new game, players can manually modify what the different parts of the furniture can look like, such as choosing the headboards of beds. The placement of individual parts like throw pillows can also be adjusted, so player builds can now be impressively unique. Aside from this, there’s a multiplayer feature. You can collaborate with others on designs thanks to the cross-platform and crossplay capability.

The title introduces new lighting technologies designed to help create highly customizable spaces and allow players to express themselves and share their stories. The animation follows an approach called "read the room" that aims to build an atmosphere that lets you see through how Sims feel and behave. This pivot to a minimalist design with clear and simple visuals means that the usual thought balloons and elaborate user interface are being reconsidered.

A great change in the franchise

While The Sims 5 doesn’t have any drastic changes to it compared to the previous titles in the series, it does promote more focus on the creative side of The Sims and finally has the multiplayer experience that long-time fans have been requesting. This is a great simulation title to try out if you’re looking for more options from what The Sims 4’s base game has.
